The Jockeys

Welcome to the 4th grade! Get to know the Fab Four (the 4th grade teachers Smile) below...

Mrs. Jessica Blust

I am originally from central Kentucky.  Specifically, a thoroughbred community, just outside of Lexington, named Versailles.  My parents are from the mountains of eastern Kentucky, so I have a rich Appalachian heritage as well.  I went to Woodford County High School, the University of Kentucky, and NKU.  I completed my Masters degree from Xavier University.  I have wanted to be a teacher since I was about 6 years old.  I am so fortunate to be able to do that each day.  Many in my family share my love for teaching.

I am beginning my 13th year of teaching this year.  I have a wonderful family!  My husband, Jeremie, and I have three beautiful children, Jacey who is almost 10, and Jarrett who is almost 7, Natalia who is 15 (our foreign exchange student from Brazil).  We share our home with Charlie, our dog, and lots of fish.

My Favorites

Things to do: travel, read, scrapbook, play with my kids

Color: purple

Animal: turtle

Vacation spot: Charleston, South Carolina

Food: Karlo’s mozzarella pesto chicken, my mom’s fried chicken, and my mom’s cherry pie (YUM!)

I am so excited about this year!  I think education is a partnership between home and school.  I look forward to working with you so that your child’s fourth and fifth grade experience is wonderful!  If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Ms. Autumn Hendrickson

Hello!  My name is Autumn Hendrickson and this is my third year teaching. I have a very high set of expectations for all students and find that when they are held to a high standard, they produce their best work and think like problem solvers.  I strive to bring original and engaging lessons in all content areas, as well as teach lifelong learning and social skills to all my students.

I grew up in Harlan, Kentucky and was surrounded with rich Appalachian heritage.  Towards the end of elementary school, I moved to London, Kentucky, which is about two and a half hours south of Independence.  During high school I was on the Varsity Dance Team and was the Vice President of the Future Educators of America.  I went to college at Eastern Kentucky University where I was on the EKU Dance Team.  I earned my bachelor's degree in Elementary Teaching with an emphasis in Mathematics in May of 2008.  I got my first job in Lexington, Kentucky and loved every minute of it!

Communication between parents and teachers is vital to a child's education.  Not only does it show a united front, but it lets children see that education is a very important part of life that is necessary for success.  I appreciate all parents who take an active interest in their child's classroom and academic success.  Studies have proven that children learn best when content is related to their life, and I strive to connect every lesson to a real life situation.  Therefore, I try to get to know each student on a deeper level to find areas that are of interest to the student so that I can make that all important connection.

Please feel free to e-mail me at autumn.hendrickson@kenton.kyschools.us.  I will try my best to answer all e-mails by the next school day.
