Learning Styles & Differentiation

Research, by Rita and Kenneth Dunn, as well as Howard Gardner, has shown that people learn in different ways.  It is important for a teacher to know the individual learning styles of his/her students and vary their teaching methods so as to reach students in their individual style. Once their individual style and ability for a particular concept is determined, a teacher can differentiate the lessons so that a student can be appropriately challenged and guided.  Because of this, your child will begin the year by taking several assessments.  These assessments will determine their learning style as well as their ability level in certain areas.  We will then be able to individualize lessons for students so that their needs can be met as much as possible.
